Thread: Wonder kids' parents....

    Default Wonder kids' parents....

    I am a regular viewer of a reality show in singing on Vijay TV called Airtel Super Singer Junior. It is really amazing to see small kids right from the age of 5 or 6 to 13 or 14 sing with great clarity in Shruthi(notes), taal(beat) and Bhav(expression).Really these talented wonders are child prodigies.

    Now you may be wondering why I am writing about them in "Parenting" column.....

    When you see the program, you will notice that more than the kids, their parents who accompany them look stressed, tension filled and very anxious and they sulk like anything when the result is negative.

    Parents need to encourage the talents hidden in their children by guiding them properly, appreciating them and also constructively criticize them when they seek their support.

    Parents need to prepare the kids for any result - negative or positive in such competitions and make them realize that these competitions are not an end to their talents but a means to realize their dream and passion.....

    At times it is very pathetic to see the anxiety written all over the parents' faces when their wards perform.

    Parents need to make the kids understand that these talents they possess should be nurtured and groomed well but at the same time they should make them also understand that enjoying what they do is more important than the competition itself. Any competition will and can have only one winner. So while striving for the first position, they should enjoy what they perform and not be filled with tension.

    The smallest kid on the show (5 or 6) who sings very well once said that his dad always wants him to "be serious" and wanted him to "keep up his (dad's) prestige". These words of the little one made me write this thread.

    Hope the parents of such talented kids will learn to groom their wards well in this competitive world in the best manner.

    (Even Michael Jackson's dad used to be so very strict with him that the poor guy never had a happy childhood and that was mentioned by him many times when he was alive).

    Post A good and bad story - a kind of 'lesson and learn'

    It happened that way because of the 'Conflict of Interests' existed in their parents' hopes. This kind of attitude able to jeopardize their child's talents development and the progress. By comparison, it's like a tyre's pressure level to one moving car. Either less or over than the normal pressure level needed related to load/weight carried, the wear and tear degree will increase unexpectedly.

    The good way (not necessarily the best way) is to let their child totally under mentor-mantee singing program because their child will be getting the professional guidance and assurance. meaning that, parents must work closely and communicate with their kid's mentor only.

    Giving chance to their kid to learn professionally how to absorb the external pressure and in respectful releasing the inner pressure by means of human natural ability which can be enhanced in their learning process direct from their mentor.

    This story is very good for all of us as parent/parents, the lesson and learn, in term of get understanding about a parent not necessarily a superior in all aspects of life. Sometimes parents must remember about nature system, they are our kids just only one reason - period of living time - parents live before them and they live after parents. That's all and in future they (kids) still have much time to make their life much better than what their parents enjoying for now.

    Don't let this thing in our family, like what you have shared - quoted for;
