    Default Drishyam- A visual Treat

Drishyam…. by writer director Jithu Joseph was the most awaited movie of Mohanlal in the year 2013. ..... the intelligence is in the complex simplicity behind the screenplay and allowing the story to unravel at its own pace...never hurrying...never compromising... The perfect script and direction makes DHRISHYAM one of the most gripping and compelling pictures I have ever seen.

Drishyam is the story of a normal middle class family in Idukki district, comprising of cable operator Georgekutty (Mohanlal), his wife Rani (Meena) and their two daughters . He spends most of his time at the cable office, watching movies of all languages. It is a peaceful family life filled with laughter and peace.
All that changes when a friend of his daughter tries to blackmail her threatening to release her video into the internet. The next day, the boy is found to be missing.
Then begins the second phase of the story.Though the audience is slightly deceived by the slow pace of the first half, the second half is an entirely different game and the movie changes to a suspense thriller.
How George kutty schemes to save his family even as the police focus their investigation on him, right from the beginning is a masterpiece of story-telling. Barely literate, he needs to use his years of experience in watching movies as a guide to execute a perfect plan to save his family.
Then the final scene unfolds, and it's stunning without doubt; perhaps the very best climax that I have seen this year!

There are many who deserve applause for this movie. Kalabhavan Shajon, usually found in comic role, makes a very good villainous cop . I don't know the two girls who played their children but they were amazing. Asha Sarath as the mother of the missing boy is stunning in her performance as a strict police officer and as a mother.
There are one or two dialogues in the movie by GeorgeKutty which makes the hero seems ten feet tall... No six packs...no slow motions..no trumpets ...just one sentence...and a thrilling heroism established…
There is not a single frame or dialogue where one is informed that the hero is right...or even that he is doing wrong... when the crime is unavoidable...guilt is debatable.. yet one gets the message that, responsibility to protect family makes the sin lesser.
As...the mystery slowly unravels...there is a huge sigh of relief…from the audience…and a slight.. suppressed.fear.. on the edge of our consciousness..
. The hero is just a simple man...trying to lead a simple life... HE WILL DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT HIS FAMILY… Or so the scenes seems to shout.

Right from the meaning of the movie title down to the very last line uttered in the film, everything has a certain significance. -

DHRISHYAM is a personal triumph for Mohanlal...there cannot be too many actors of his calibre in world cinema today... DHRISHYAM is a universal victory, not merely for Malayalam cinema...but indeed for Indian cinema... Sometimes success has no formula...has no precedent. It is instinctive - sometimes just a gut feeling...
'Drishyam' promises a spectacular watch, for you, without even as much as a blinking of an eye.
    Don't miss this one.

Thanks again for writing this review. It made me to look for DVD. finally.. got to see this movie. it's a good movie. 2 hrs 44 min is not wasted. Direction is fabulous. story line is simple, the way it was told was wonderful.

Internet is curse. it should have stayed in the military as was originally envisioned. India and rest of the world see youths mind polluted because of all the sex materials available in the internet. I can see the mind corruption in chennai, where I live. cinema plays major role, there is fashion towards western culture, mobile phone's mushrooming growth especially camera phone contributed growth of crime in this country. you will see lot of Georgekutties in the real life, if there is no strict law to punish the bastards who play with young girls' lives.

This movie is so realistic. this can happen to anybody, in India or most of Asia.
